Die Mythologie besagt, dass Zakynthos, Sohn des K\u00f6nigs von Troja Dardanos, auf die Insel kam, von ihrer Sch\u00f6nheit verzaubert war und die gleichnamige Stadt baute. Von sehr alten Tagen an ging er gemeinsam durch Leiden und Herrlichkeiten.<\/p><p>In der Antike wurde es vom b\u00f6sen K\u00f6nig von Ithaka Odysseus besetzt. Sie rebellierten und vertrieben ihn f\u00fcr 450 Jahre bis 404 v. Sie leben demokratisch und auf der Insel gedeiht eine gro\u00dfartige Kultur. Dann gr\u00fcndeten sie die Kolonie Zacantha in Spanien. Der Krieg zwischen den beiden griechischen Gro\u00dfst\u00e4dten Athen und Sparta l\u00e4sst sie nicht in Ruhe, mal wird sie Verb\u00fcndete der einen, mal der anderen. In den byzantinischen Jahren wurde es eine Provinz von Byzanz.<\/p><p>W\u00e4hrend der Zeit der Kreuzfahrer wurde es 1150 n. Chr. gepl\u00fcndert. von den Normannen. Nach dem Fall von Konstantinopel wird er viele Herren wechseln und Tage des Hungers und Elends erleben. 1488 wird es von den Venezianern besetzt und f\u00fcr viele Jahre wird die &#8222;Blume der Levante&#8220;, wie sie es getauft haben, unter ihrer Herrschaft bleiben. Die Verwaltung, die sie auf der Insel aus\u00fcben, ist hart. Es gibt die Herren auf der einen Seite und das Volk, die Sklaven, die Volksmassen auf der anderen Seite. Die Erl\u00f6sung kommt 1797 von den Franzosen, die ein Jahr aussetzen. Von 1809 bis 1864 beherrschten die Engl\u00e4nder die Insel und unterdr\u00fcckten die Bewohner.<\/p><p>Ihre Bewohner k\u00e4mpfen f\u00fcr ihre Befreiung und die Vereinigung der Insel mit Griechenland. Wir haben auf der Insel Ende des 17. und Anfang des 18. Jahrhunderts eine gro\u00dfe intellektuelle Entwicklung mit gro\u00dfen Vertretern der Literatur. Unser Nationaldichter Dionysios Solomos wurde hier geboren. Zur Zeit der Revolution schrieb er die Nationalhymne, w\u00e4hrend er den Messolongio-Kanonen vom Stranis-H\u00fcgel lauschte. Heimatstadt des kompromisslosen Hugo Foskolos und des revolution\u00e4ren Hymnendichters Andreas Kalvos.<\/p><p>Die heutige Stadt Zakynthos ist neu nach den verheerenden Erdbeben von 1953. In der Stadt kann der Besucher die ber\u00fchmte Kirche und das Kloster von Agios Dionysios, dem Schutzpatron der Stadt, sehen. Die venezianische Festung auf dem H\u00fcgel. Von dort oben kann man die Aussicht auf die Stadt und die umliegende Landschaft bewundern. Das nachbyzantinische Museum, in dem alte Ikonen gesammelt wurden und man die unvergleichliche Kunst der byzantinischen Ikonographie bewundern kann.
